AGBU Montreal Contributes to Great Success on WTTW Chicago PBS Station

June 17, 2015

Montreal, June 3, 2015 – The broadcasting of Andrew Goldberg’s Armenia: A story of Survival and The Armenian Genocide on Monday the 1st of June with the presence of former AGBU Montreal chairman Viken L. Attarian and Karl Guiragossian, a young AGBU Montreal member and community activist was a great success.

“We did very well with this broadcast”, said Beth Mernune, Director of Programming and On-air Fundraising at the station. “Particularly in comparison with our usual June pledge events which yield much lower results”. “We were thrilled to have such an involved and enthusiastic group of volunteers and we would not have had such success without each and every one of you. It was an honor to have with us Viken and Karl, you are dedicated and inspiring”, she added.

Viken acted as a historical consultant, explaining contexts and answering questions during the pledge breaks. He solicited viewers’ interests and encouraged them to support the WTTW PBS station; Karl was also interviewed on-air and explained why he felt that it was important for the youth to participate in such initiatives, and urged the viewers, in Armenian, to call and support the station. He also spoke about the AGBU Montreal scouts’ Armenia 2015 project.

The program was broadcast to millions of viewers and the phones were continuously occupied. Viken and Karl were assisted by a large team of AGBU volunteers from the Chicago chapter as well as local AGBU YP members. Other volunteers included parishioners of Chicago area Armenian churches and pastors.
