Last week, the Consul General of Iraq in Montreal Mr. Jassem Naame Massaoul awarded certificates of merit to the participants in the Iraqi cultural exhibition.

Iraqi Armenian renowned photographer and teacher at AGBU Hayortyats Or Saturday school Mr. Ara Samson was among the recipients of the certificate of merit.

Ara Samson was exposed to the world of photography at a very early age. Son of one of Iraq’s most renowned photographers, he passed his childhood experimenting with images and frequenting the family’s photographic atelier in downtown Baghdad. This environment offered him plenty of opportunities and a veritable vocational training.

Solo and group exhibitions of Ara Samson’s works have been held in several countries including Iraq, Syria, Armenia, France and Canada. Ara Samson’s artistic style is an authentic one.

In the artist’s words: “The idealistic disposition of the art world often collides with the factual and neorealist representation afforded by the lens. Whether the softness of our miraculous nature or the backward and deplorable humanism we see in times of war and sufferings, I am loyal to life as it is.”
