While the National media was set to scrutinize the details of the next Federal budget in Ottawa, Liberal, Conservative and New Democrat members of parliament stood up in the House of Commons to read statements recognizing the 60th Anniversary of the Armenian General Benevolent Union (AGBU) in Canada.
MPs congratulated the leadership of AGBU, commended its outstanding mission in serving the community through educational, youth, cultural, social, athletic and more importantly, humanitarian programs and initiatives. They saluted the great spirit of benevolence of its remarkable members and volunteers that has motivated AGBU’s achievements throughout its 60 years of existence contributing to the greater Canadian society.
“On behalf of the Armenian General Benevolent Union, I wholeheartedly thank the Prime Minister of Canada, the Leader of the Official Opposition and the New Democratic Party for this great honour of recognition on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of AGBU in Canada. It is rather a calling to better our work with renewed commitment and the utmost sense of responsibility” said Chairman Chahé Tanachian.
In 2017, the AGBU is marking and celebrating this important milestone through a series of events and new initiatives.

Le 60e anniversaire de l’UGAB au Canada célébré à la Chambre des Communes

Alors que les médias nationaux scrutaient les détails du prochain budget fédéral, des députés libéral, conservateur et néo-démocrate se sont tour à tour levés à la Chambre des communes pour souligner le 60e anniversaire de l’Union générale arménienne de bienfaisance (UGAB) au Canada.
Les députés ont félicité l’UGAB pour son leadership et pour sa noble mission de service à la communauté, par le biais de ses programmes éducatifs, de jeunesse, culturels, sociaux, sportifs et, surtout, par ses initiatives humanitaires. Les députés ont salué l’esprit de bienfaisance des membres et bénévoles qui ont permis à l’UGAB de rayonner et de servir lors des soixante dernières années.
“Au nom de l’Union générale arménienne de bienfaisance, je tiens à remercier le Premier ministre du Canada, la chef de l’opposition officielle, ainsi que le Nouveau Parti Démocratique pour ce grand honneur à l’occasion de notre 60e anniversaire au Canada”, a déclaré M. Chahé Tanachian, président de l’UGAB Montréal. “Nous interprétons cet hommage comme un appel à l’action et une invitation à redoubler d’ardeur dans notre travail”.
L’UGAB célébrera cet anniversaire tout au long de l’année 2017, avec un riche programme d’événements et le lancement de nouvelles initiatives.
