The A.G.B.U. Montreal Rovers held an elegant, red-carpet Oscar Night fundraiser on Sunday, February 22, 2015.

The event, organised by the Rovers under the management of Rovers Lory Piloyan and Melanie Guiragossian with the help of the committee who held a similar soirée two years ago, was aimed at raising funds for the Rovers’ Armenia 2015 Humanitarian Project. The evening saw the projection of a live television feed of the Oscar ceremony from Los Angeles to the more than 100 attendees in the Jirair and Ellise Dervishian Hall of the A.G.B.U. Montreal Center as well as a cold buffet arranged by the organizing committee and desserts donated by the parents of the Rovers.

Hosting of this classy event was ably handled in English and Armenian by Rovers Melissa Frengul and Kevork Atamian, with strong technical support by Karine Topalian. As part of the entertainment during the commercial breaks, Rover Talia Tahtajian sang an excellent rendition of Let It Go, the theme song from the movie Frozen, and young Arabella Yacoubian stunned the audience with her version of Rihanna’s Stay. And in true scouting spirit, the Rovers had decided to donate the proceeds from the coatcheck to the Help Save Matthew Fund, thus living up to Lord Baden Powell’s principles of helping others, sharing and serving the community. February 22nd is, after all, Thinking Day – a day to commemorate the birthdays of Lord Baden Powell and his wife Olave (the founders of scouting), to reflect on the meaning and place of scouting in our lives and to think about our brother and sister scouts.
