During his official visit to Canada from May 22-28, 2015 Mr. Galust Sahakyan, President of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia met the AGBU delegation headed by Mr. Armen Bechakjian, Chairman of the AGBU Alex Manoogian School Board, Mr. Harry Dikranian, Chairman of the Armenian Bar Association and members of the AGBU Executive Committee, Mrs. Silvin Bakkalian, Mr. Ara Nahabedian, Mr. Vrouyr Moughalian and Mr. Hagop Arslanian.

During the meeting, Mr. Bechakjian spoke about the work of AGBU in Canada as well as its many ongoing projects in the Republic of Armenia. He also noted that AGBU Canada is actively involved in lobbying work to develop bilateral relations between Canada and Armenia and in communicating issues affecting Armenians worldwide with the relevant authorities in Canada. President Sahakyan highly commended the work of AGBU in Armenia, Artsakh and in the Diaspora and expressed his joy that AGBU Canada has undertaken the initiative to promote issues related to Armenians worldwide.

Following the meeting, Mr. Armen Bechakjian presented the President of the National Assembly of Armenia with a replica Inukshuk, a Canadian icon symbolizing leadership and team spirit.

Mr. Sahakyan’s visit, upon the invitation of the Speakers of both Houses of the Canadian Parliament, was aimed at developing parliamentary relations between Canada and Armenia, and at discussing key bilateral issues.
