On June 17, 2016 the Alex Manoogian school of Montreal held a graduation ceremony for its Kindergarten, Primary and Secondary students in front of their proud friends and family members.

Throughout the entire night, various students were rewarded for their efforts and achievements throughout this memorable school year. From technological projects to Ministry exams, children were able to showcase their many talents and strengths. Furthermore, teachers handed out prizes to students showing immense efforts and successes.

The highlight and most touching moment of the ceremony happened when the Principal, Chahé Tanachian, announced that Mrs. Vartouhi Festekjian would be retiring at the end of this school year, after more than 30 years of service as Armenian teacher within the school. She walked towards the stage while the crowd rose and applauded in unison. Her heartfelt words to her graduates and colleagues were as sincere and thoughtful as her countless years spent in Alex Manoogian’s classrooms.

The school also honoured long-time staff members Mrs. Sonia Kalaydjian and Mrs. Ardemis Boyadjian in recognition of 25 years of service. On stage with them was Miss Tracey Featherstone, an English teacher who dedicated 25 years of her life to teaching advanced English to 3 generations of children.

Then, the President of the school’s Board of Directors, Armen Bechakjian took the stage and congratulated all the graduates and also the entire staff of the school for another successful year. He then invited honorary guest speaker and member of the AGBU Central Board of Directors, Lena Sarkissian, to speak to the graduates. As her speech was full of elegance, witty comments and intelligent humour, it was the appropriate way to wrap up another beautiful school year. The students were now excited to enter the Dervishian Hall at the AGBU Center to party amongst themselves and their family members.
