We continue with the AGBU Online Concert Series: “Solidarity in Song”, which you can enjoy on the AGBU Montreal and AGBU Toronto Facebook page every Wednesday at 8:00 p.m.

This endeavor is aimed at providing a platform for our local Armenian-Canadian artists to showcase their talents and keep the Armenian community connected through these uncertain times, while also providing entertainment, of course.

Today, we will enjoy performances by Levon Markosyan, Arevik Markosyan, and Markosyan Quartet.

Levon Markosyan, 16 years. Levon graduated from Alex Manoogian School of AGBU Montreal. He has been playing the cello from the age of six. At the age of 10, he was accepted to Montréal Conservatoire, where he continues his studies in the class of world famous musician Denis Brott. Levon is the winner of numerous musical competitions: amongst them the first prize in Canadian Music Competition 2017; the first place in Crescendo International Competition with participation in winners’ gala at Carnegie Hall, New York City. In 2018 Levon wins the special prize «Quatrouvailles» granted by Montreal Music Teachers’ Co-op and Canimex Group. In 2019 he wins the special prize and the scholarship Yannick Nézet-Séguin in «OMNI» competition of the Métropolitain Orchestra. Levon recently appeared several times at the Place des Arts: he performed in Montreal Symphony House as a special prize winner and also as the leader of cello section of the JFP Symphonic Orchestra, under the direction of Yannick Nézet-Séguin. As a soloist, Levon performed Elgar’s cello concerto with JFP Symphonic Orchestra, at the Thêatre Maisonneuve, under the direction of Éric Levasseur. Levon is a recipient of the scholarship granted by AGBU Montreal and also a member of the AGBU Montreal Marching Band.

Arevik Markosyan, 12 years. Arevik accomplished her elementary studies at Alex Manoogian School, where she received the merit award for maths. Her first music teachers are her parents, especially her father Artur Markosyan, who is Arevik’s piano and flute teacher. She studied the piano for 3 years with him and lately switched to the flute to join Markosyan Quartet. Arevik is also a member and a soloist of Alex Manoogian Children Choir as well as of the AGBU Marching Band, under the direction of her father. Arevik successfully passed all the exams to be accepted to the International and Art-Studies special combined program of the school Joseph-François-Perrault, where she is pursuing her high school studies. She is occasionally appearing on different stages with her parents and her brother.

Artur Markosyan: composer, performer multi-instrumentalist, music teacher and choir responsible at Alex Manoogian School of Montreal, artistic director of AGBU Montreal Marching Band.
Artur fluently masters the piano and many wind instruments of different families, as well as composition and choir singing. He is the laureate of 7 national and international competitions, as a composer, saxophonist and pianist. Artur Markosyan was honoured with diploma by Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Armenia for his merit in development of the wind music of the country. His orchestral arrangements were highly appreciated and performed by President Orchestra of Armenia during the national celebration of 10th anniversary of Military Academy after V. Sargsyan. With his wife Marine Ekizyan and their two musically gifted children he founded their family quartet, for which he makes arrangements and transcriptions.

Marine Ekizyan is musicologist, pianist accompanist; piano and ear training teacher at different musical organizations and music schools in Montreal.
Marine graduated from Yerevan State Conservatory, obtaining 2 Bachelor’s degrees in music: the first in musicology and the teaching of theoretical disciplines, and the second as pianist, accompanist and chamber ensemble artist. Marine has in total 20 years of studies in music, including 9 years of her university studies in Yerevan State Conservatory. She was honored with awards of excellence from the State Conservatory and the Romanos Melikyan College. Marine worked as a singer in the Yerevan State Chamber Choir, with which she participated in numerous concerts and recordings in Armenia and in Europe. She was cofounder and the pianist of the AYG piano quartet in Yerevan and the Markosyan Quartet in Montreal. As pianist accompanist, Marine participated in numerous concerts and annual editions of Canadian Music Competition. With his son, Levon Markosyan she performed during the winners’ gala in Carnegie Hall, New York City.
