Earlier today, AGBU Canada urged the Trudeau government to invest in education, local NGOs and address the backlog at the Consular Services of the Beirut Embassy.

On behalf of AGBU Canada, Hagop Arslanian participated in a virtual meeting with the Honourable Mélanie Joly, Minister of Economic Development and Official Languages, the Honourable Karina Gould, Minister of International Development, and the Honourable François-Philippe Champagne, Minister of Foreign Affairs, to discuss the crisis in Lebanon.

Arslanian proposed that funds be redirected towards the education sector so students can return to school for the fall session. He also encouraged the government to work with local NGOs who can better assess and assist citizens affected by the August 4th Beirut explosion. He then urged the government to address the backlog at the Consular Services of the Canadian Embassy in Beirut, specifically for the applicants of family reunification.

Canada is very concerned about the situation in Lebanon. The government is actively working to support the Lebanese people at this difficult time, including through what is now $30M in financial assistance to Canada’s partners on the ground.

ՀԲԸՄ Գանատան Կոչ Կ’ուղղէ Կառավարութեան Առաւել Գործօն Մասնակցութիւն Բերելու Լիբանանի Վերականգնումի Աշխատանքներուն

Ուրբաթ, 21 Օգոստոսի յետմիջօրէին, նախաձեռնութեամբ Նախարար Մելանի Ժոլիի տեղի ունեցաւ առցանց հանդիպում, Գանատայի Արտաքին Գործոց Նախարար՝ Ֆրանսուա Ֆիլիփ Շամփայնի եւ Միջազգային Զարգացման Նախարար՝ Քարինա Կոլտի հետ:

Սոյն հանդիպման, ՀԲԸՄ Գանատայի Մարմինը ներկայացուց Յակոբ Արսլանեան, որ իր խօսքի ընթացքին կոչ ուղղեց Կառավարութեան՝ մարդասիրական օգնութեան համար տրամադրուած գումարէն մաս մը յատկացնել Լիբանանի կրթական մարզին, որպէսզի կարելի ըլլայ վերամուտին դպրոցները վերաբանալ եւ մեծ թիւով աշակերտներ յաճախեն վարժարան: Ան առաջարկեց, որ Գանատայի կառավարութիւնը Լիբանանի մէջ համագործակցի ո՛չ միայն միջազգային հաստատութիւններու այլեւ տեղական, բարեգործական կազմակերպութիւններու հետ:

Շարունակելով իր խօսքը, Արսլանեան փափաք յայտնեց, որ յառաջիկային՝ նման հանդիպումներուն մասնակցի նաեւ Գաղթականական Հարցերու Նախարար Մարքօ Մենտիչինոն եւ առաջարկեց՝ Լիբանանի մէջ Գանատայի Հիւպատոսարանի ծառայութիւններուն առաւել կազմակերպ եւ անյապաղ ընթացք տալ, որպէսզի յատկապէս՛ ընտանիքի վերամիացման դիմումնագրերը արդար եւ արագ պատասխան ունենան:
