The Armenian General Benevolent Union in Canada initiated and sponsored the opening of a French Language Classroom in Stepanakert, Republic of Artsakh. The classroom is built in the No. 2 School named after Ashot (Pegor) Ghulyan.

Last April, during their visit to Artsakh, AGBU Montreal Chairman Chahe Tanachian and Canadian Armenian Political Affairs Committee (CAPAC) Director Hagop Arslanian met the President of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic (NKR) to discuss a range of issues and specially, the promotion of French culture in Artsakh. On this occasion, Chahe Tanachian laid out a comprehensive plan to promote the French language and culture in Artsakh with a future perspective, in return, to facilitate the advocacy of the NKR in the Province of Quebec.

President Bako Sahakyan thanked AGBU for its ongoing support towards Artsakh and recommended that immediate actions be taken to realize this project. As part of that plan, a new French Language Teaching Classroom is being built in one of Stepanakert’s main schools where students will follow French language and culture courses.

On this occasion, AGBU Chairman Chahe Tanachian said: “Education is an extensive investment in the future. Through this and other initiatives in the field of education and culture, AGBU Canada will contribute to the efforts of the Republic of Artsakh in strengthening its ties with the Francophone world, and in return, create new ties between Artsakh and Canada mainly through the French speaking Province of Quebec”.
